Depth Comes First

​In the Ultra Depth™ Process, the most important question is not which advanced state a person reaches, but whether the depth beneath it is real. A state that looks deep is not necessarily deep. This is why, within this lineage, depth comes first: everything that follows — every advanced state, every form of cooperation with the subconscious — rests on a foundation that must be authentically achieved and clearly verified before anything is built upon it.

What "Depth" Actually Means

 

Conventional approaches measure hypnotic depth by the range of phenomena a person can produce: suggestibility, amnesia, anesthesia. These indicators have real practical value, but they describe depth more than they define it. Depth, in the Ultra Depth™ sense, is not a matter of muscular relaxation — a body can appear deeply relaxed without the structural conditions of depth being present. It is a matter of the relaxation of conscious control: the loosening of the ego's grip, so that another layer can come forward. Physical relaxation may accompany this, but it is a byproduct, not the cause. And because a response can be conditioned to resemble a deep one, a reproducible response is not, by itself, evidence of structural depth. The same outward sign can arise from very different layers.

Verification by Complete Amnesia

The foundation of the entire Process is Profound Somnambulism, and within this lineage it is confirmed directly — most clearly through complete amnesia. This is a deliberate standard. A lighter, indirect test may confirm that a person has entered a moderately deep state, but it does not, on its own, establish profound somnambulism. The Ultra Depth™ Process verifies that foundational depth overtly before proceeding.

This standard does not imply that comparable depth cannot occur outside a formal process; throughout the history of hypnosis, people have entered deep states spontaneously. Within the Ultra Depth™ Process, however, verification serves a specific and practical purpose: it establishes a stable reference point. From that confirmed depth, the experiences that follow can be accurately recognized, distinguished, and placed in context. Without such a reference point, an advanced response may appear convincing yet remain difficult to tell apart from a suggestion-driven or surface-level one. As the lineage also observed, the more complete the amnesia, the more fully the deeper responses — including anesthesia — become available. This verification is not always quick; for some it takes time, and for some it is difficult to reach. But to skip it is to change the structural basis of everything that follows.

How Pseudo-States Arise

​

When that foundational depth is insufficient, externally suggested "advanced states" can still appear convincing on the surface. An Esdaile or Sichort script read aloud before complete amnesia has been established can easily produce a state that looks the part. But resemblance is not equivalence. Authenticity is revealed not in the surface appearance but in the structure actually operating beneath it. Work conducted from within such a counterfeit state does not rest on the real conditions for subconscious override, however carefully it is carried out. This is why the method of attainment matters as much as the apparent result.

Why the Order Cannot Be Skipped

​

For this reason, the sequence of the Process is not a procedural formality. Profound Somnambulism is verified before the Esdaile State; the Esdaile State is stabilized before the Sichort State. This order is the structural condition under which the subconscious can genuinely come to the foreground and cooperate — the condition on which every authentic response in the Process depends. Within this lineage, depth is never pursued for intensity, prestige, or dramatic effect. It is secured first so that what follows can be recognized with clarity, understood in context, and integrated responsibly. Depth comes first not as a matter of caution, but because nothing real in the Ultra Depth™ Process can stand without it.
