Ultra Depth™: The Third Generation of Hypnosis
Rethinking the Subconscious from the Sichort–Ramey Lineage to the ICS Paradigm
About the Book

Ultra Depth™: The Third Generation of Hypnosis is not a manual of technique. It is an argument about what the subconscious is, and what changes when it is no longer treated as something to be controlled.
Drawing on the lineage of Walter Sichort and James R. Ramey, and on independent observations made within ICS, the book traces how depth in hypnosis came to be understood not as the intensity of a response, but as a structural relationship with the subconscious. From that re-definition follows a different account of the work itself: not one of intervention and compliance, but of communication and cooperation.
The book sets out the structural foundations of the Ultra Depth™ Process, examines the limits of earlier paradigms, and presents the third-generation framework developed within ICS — where hypnosis is understood not as an end, but as one instrument in a larger process.
Written for practitioners, scholars, and serious readers, it is offered as a reference for those who wish to understand this work at its foundations.
Published by ICS International Press.
Synopsis
For most of its history, depth in hypnosis has been measured by the intensity of a subject's response — how deeply relaxed, how responsive to suggestion. This book begins by questioning that assumption. Depth, it argues, is not intensity. It is a structural relationship with the subconscious, and beyond a certain threshold, the entire structure of the work changes.
The book builds this argument in stages. It first sets out the structural foundations of the Ultra Depth™ Process: how consciousness differentiates, how the ego forms, and why the subconscious must be understood as an independent layer rather than a deeper region of the unconscious. It then examines the paradigms that came before — the assumptions of suggestion-based hypnosis, and the point at which those assumptions stop accounting for what is observed.
From there it turns to the central claim: that the subconscious is not an object of control, but a partner in cooperation. This re-definition reshapes the work itself — from intervention and compliance toward communication and verification. The book traces what this means in practice, and how the framework developed within ICS extends it from communication into purification.
The argument is completed inductively. Clinical observations from the Ramey lineage in the United States are placed alongside independent observations from ICS practice in Korea — two geographically separate records that converge on the same structure. The book closes not with technique, but with what this work becomes when it is carried into a life.
Ultra Depth™: The Third Generation of Hypnosis is offered as a structural account and a record of observation — a reference for those who wish to understand this work at its foundations.
